Last Saturday dawned bright and clear as I made my way down to Christchurch – a lovely return visit to the King’s Arms & Pavilion for Sarah & Gez’s wedding. Finally, a nice bit of summer sunshine for a wedding day!
I arrived in the middle of getting ready Bridal Preps, Sarah’s room was busy with both her daughter and Gez’s daughter as bridesmaids, and her best friend assisting as all-round lady’s maid.
They were going to be busy for a while still, so I took a wander round the building to capture the Priory in its dressed-and-waiting pre-wedding state, then crossed the road over to Pavilion, which is where the ceremony was to be held. I bumped into Gez with best man, and a handful of early guests and had a quick chat before I made my way back up to Sarah in the hotel.
The two bridesmaids were in different designs of full length chiffon dress, but in matching dark lilac with large bouquets of purple hydrangea heads. Sarah herself looked stunning in a full length lace over satin bridal gown with a keyhole back and a gorgeous train.
Once everyone was ready, and Sarah’s son had arrived to escort her to the ceremony (pausing for some group selfies first, naturally), the bridal party made their way across the road to the Pavilion. It’s a lovely tradition at the King’s Arms Hotel in Christchurch that Brides are escorted by a scarlet-coated Toastmaster, and the traffic is held up by a ‘lollipop lady’ with a ‘Bride Crossing’ sign!
The guests were all assembled in the Pavilion, so after a short pause on the porch the bridal party processed straight on into the bright and airy room.
Once Sarah & Gez were officially husband and wife they led their guests out onto the perfect bowling lawn for drinks in the sunshine, and the couple finally had the chance to catch up with family and friends.
After a while I stole the couple away for a stroll – we headed down towards the river, going via the priory and stopping briefly at the castle on the way. The circuit brought us alongside the river back to the guests waiting at the King’s Priory. Gez requested a few family formals on the lawn before everyone was invited to join the receiving line as everyone moved indoors.
Once seated for the wedding breakfast in the Priory Suite, Sarah and gez were announced to their guests and made their entrance – and once they were seated it was time for me to make my goodbyes, leaving them to their wedding feast.
