I’m always happy when a couple enquires about a Pig On The Beach wedding – it’s a great wedding venue, with a beautiful house for bridal preps, perfect marquee lawn, and stunning views of the Dorset Coast from the landscaped grounds. I just love to photograph there.
Below is a real wedding story of a recent Pig On The Beach wedding – it’s Lauren & Jay’s big day.
If you’re looking for a photographer for your own wedding at the Pig On The Beach, do get in touch – I’d love to have a chat about your own plans!
It was with huge excitement recently that I headed down to the coast for a Pig on the Beach wedding; it was a stunning Autumn day (my very favourite kind of British weather), it was going to be my absolute favourite type of wedding with a relaxed family gathering in a gorgeous location, and on top of that it was going to be a brilliant chance to catch up with Head Chef Andy and Sandra (who runs the front of house) whose own wedding at Highcliffe Castle I covered last year.
Lauren & Jay met years ago whilst they were backpacking in Australia – but the path of love didn’t run very smoothly for them, as Lauren is American, and Jay’s British; once they returned to their respective homes that’s quite a distance to cover before you can head out on date night!
But finally things worked out, and this year Lauren made a permanent move to the UK. Her family and friends flew in for the wedding, and the wedding party entirely took over The Pig On The Beach for a few days together.
I arrived early for Lauren’s preparations – and when finally ready she looked stunning in her BHLDN dress (a first for me – Anthropologie’s wedding dress range isn’t so well known here in the UK), a vintage-inspired lace bodice balanced with an airy, layered tulle skirt.
All the guests walked from The Pig to St Nicholas Church in Studland for the ceremony – just a few minutes down the road. Lauren, however, arrived in style with her father in the horse and carriage, with one small bridesmaid perched excitedly up front!
The church was decorated simply and beautifully with flowers by Jennifer Poynter, the aisle lined by small galvanized buckets of arrangements in shades of white and lemon with lots of greenery. A touching ceremony was full of laughter, and then after signing the register Lauren and Jay exited the church to enjoy the horse and carriage return drive, whilst their guests strolled back in the glorious sunshine – there had been a sharp rain shower whilst everyone was inside the church, but it cleared with perfect timing for everyone to head back to The Pig to enjoy a drink on the lawns.
Sneaking away from their guests we headed out to explore the lovely grounds (and shepherds huts and camping toilets…!), enjoying the amazing views across Old Harry Rucks and Studland Bay from the clifftop.
Back in the chandelier-lit marquee, everyone was seated for the spectacular wedding breakfast – and we were all treated to a fabulous (hilarious!) ‘speech’ by Lauren’s sister Emily – definitely my favourite Chief Bridesmaid speech ever, and the first I’ve witnessed in the form of Interpretative Dance…
The second rain shower of the day timed itself kindly for the guests as they all sat to eat, and by the time the speeches were over the guests were able to spill back out onto the lawns to enjoy the balmy Autumnal evening.
The evening eventually drew in and we headed back inside the Pig to witness Lauren and Jay’s first dance.
Congratulations Lauren and Jay – it was a perfect, special day, and I’d like to thank you for allowing me to be a part of it.
